National Polio Immunisation Campaign

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Health Minister, inaugurated the Nationwide Polio Vaccination Campaign for 2022 on Saturday by delivering polio vaccinations to kids under the age of 5 at the ministry of health.

On Sunday, a vaccination campaign will be held throughout the nation. Each year, India conducts one NID and two SNIDs to preserve community resistance against polio virus and retain its polio-free title. During the Polio NID, over fifteen crore children would be vaccinated in 735 districts across 36 states / Territories.

The Health Minister, addressing the gathering, described India’s strategic campaign against polio as a success story of the country's health policy towards vaccine- preventable illnesses. “We should be vigilant and ensure that each child below the age of five is vaccinated against polio.”

“Taking our Prime Minister's guidance, the Nationwide Vaccination Program is concentrating on protecting children from more illnesses than ever, but has now released a plethora of new vaccinations, along with the PCV, Rotavirus and Measles-Rubella vaccine," says the statement.” In addition, India has incorporated injected Polio vaccinations in its routine vaccination programme to provide extra protection to our kids.” “It’s critical that all
vaccinations supplied as part of the project reaches every kid in our nation as we attempt to safeguard our youngsters from an increasing range of diseases,” the minister added.

He emphasised the significance of marking National Vaccination Day, saying that Swastha Bharath can only be accomplished if kids are fit. The goal of Mission Indradhanush, or the Polio Vaccination Campaign, is to protect individuals from terrible illnesses like polio.

“Because our neighboring countries are currently polio-free, we must remain vigilant and continue our vaccination efforts." In the following months, around 15 crore kids under the age of five will get immunized. To guarantee nobody is left out, door-to-door vaccination programs will be carried out with careful micro-
planning” he explained.

Children will be given polio drops at 7 lakh booths during the campaign. For immunisation initiatives, a total of 23.6 crore houses would be contacted. Meghalaya had already undertaken the campaign on 24th Jan, while Mizoram
planned to do it on 1st March due to local circumstances.

The Polio NID will be held on 20th and 24th Mar in the election-bound states of Uttar Pradesh and Manipur, accordingly.
