Facts you should know about Bhupendra Patel before he takes the oath?

A BJP politician with a modest profile, a civil engineering degree, and the first chief minister of Ahmedabad. As Gujarat’s CM for a second term, Bhupendra Patel takes the oath of office today. Here’s what you need to learn about him.

Bhupendra Patel will be ushered in for a second term today at 2 PM in Gandhinagar during the event for the Gujarat CM. PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other top officials are anticipated at the event following the BJP’s seventh straight victory in the state’s Legislative Assembly elections.

In his position as CM, Patel, 60, first swore the oath in Sep 2021. In more recent times, he was chosen on Saturday to represent the BJP legislative party. He then met with the governor and pushed his claim to establish the next administration.

With the largest margin of 1.92 lakh votes, he won the Ghatlodia seat, which is a component of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Here are a few things you should know about Gujarat’s top commander.

Patel, a low-profile BJP politician and the first politician from the Kadva Patidar sub-group to become Chief Minister, unexpectedly took over as Vijay Rupani’s replacement in September 2021. At the time, he was a first-time MLA. This was viewed as a component of the party’s bigger aim to implement structural transformation at all stages of state administration before the 2022 elections.

The Patidar clan, which makes up the majority of the BJP’s supporters, was seen to be disengaging from it in recent years. The 2015 Patidar movement, which helped Hardik Patel rise to prominence, was also perceived as a manifestation of the community’s displeasure with the BJP. After Anandiben Patel, Keshubhai Patel, Babubhai Patel, and Chimanbhai Patel, Bhupendra Patel became the fifth Patidar politician to hold the position of the chief minister.

Patel, who has a degree in civil engineering, has worked in real estate for roughly the last 25 years. His son-in-law is the owner of a construction firm. In Ahmedabad’s guarded city region, Patel first ran a store selling fireworks in Dariapur. In the 1990s, he gained power from the Memnagar Nagarpalika, which is currently a part of the boundaries of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. He worked his way up to become Gujarat’s first CM, representing the state’s largest commercial center, Ahmedabad.

As a corporator for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), he ran in his first significant election in 2010 and later rose to the position of chairman of the standing committee.

In 2017, Patel won his first Assembly election, defeating Shashikant Patel of the Congress by an enormous margin of more than one lakh votes. He was chosen for the CM position in part because of the lack of significant controversies he has encountered throughout his tenure.
