Every year on January 23rd, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is commemorated. On January 23, 2023, India’s President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the revolutionary freedom fighter who always led a courageous path.
Gandhi and Bose
Regardless of their differences of opinion, Gandhi and Bose were always found to have a strong respect for Gandhi, as evidenced by the condolence message he sent after Kasturba Gandhi’s death on June 4, 1944, over the Azad Hind Radio.
When Bose assumed command of the Indian National Army, he named three regiments after Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru ji, and Maulana Azad.

Satadru Sen a historian said that both Gandhi and bose had different perspectives Gandhiji was willing to wait for a long time for independence, wanted a decentralised society, dedicated to nonviolence, however, bose wanted immediate action in terms of independence, he saw technology and mass production an essential, wanted a strong central government and saw the modern state as a solution to most of our problems and also. He did not share Gandhi’s dedication to nonviolence.
What Indira Gandhi said about bose
On December 17th,1967, the day Netaji’s relics arrived Indira Gandhi talked about the difference Bose had with Congress, but asserted that Netaji was truly a brave soldier.
“Netajis’ love for his people led him to create Indian National Army which went on eliciting strong-minded level-headed brave fighters for freedom. The struggle for freedom was long and led to many sacrifices among which Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose took a high place. He will always retain a place of affection and honor in every Indian heart, ” Indira said.
Netaji’s slogan Jai Hind reminds us of him and also the ideals he placed before us. This is our biggest national slogan which is heard from the north and all to the south.
