Russia-Ukraine Conflict Update

Keeping in mind the tension between Ukraine and Russia, and keeping it as a war front, many students from India who are pursuing in medical courses in the country have returned to India over the last few days. Sources proved that nearly 200 students came back owing to their parents going into panic and stress because of the war situation. They also stated that the prices of tickets went on an all-time high where they were forced to buy them in order to escape bad scenarios.

Some of the students said that there was a lot of fear and panic among Indian students in the country. They were advised by the Indian Embassy to leave the country inspite of tickets prices going up to Rs 65,000, in order to be safe and secure. Th original price of tickets is usually about Rs. 25,000, but due to the ever-growing tensions, students had no other go.

Some students also criticized the Indian embassy for delaying the evacuation process, as most other countries began their procedures months before the war took a bad front. For the unversed, there are around 20,000 Indians who are currently studying MBBS and other medical courses in Ukraine. Airports are seeing nearly 200 students coming back to India, every single day.

In a contrast, some students said that they were not financially stable enough to buy expensive flight tickets. Since many came to pursue their studies via loans, they are not economically stable enough to buy such costly tickets to go back. Cheaper flights are going through different countries, which requires a visa, and visa cannot be issued in just one week, was the concern of one such student in Ukraine.

People who are getting the chance to come back are not having enough accessibility to reach the stations and airports in Ukraine. Due to the growing danger, all public transport was called off, which made it very hard for students to commute and travel to other areas.

In the words of many who are stuck at Ukraine, one student stated that buying tickets was not his cup of tea as he came here through a scholarship provided by the government of India. This money motive has proven to be a huge cause of concern for many students. Some students were optimistic that they will be able to get through the tough time but only time will tell us, where the situation stands.
