Ways to improve the employment opportunities in rural areas.
Many people who have migrated to the urban areas went back to their villages as they lost their jobs during the pandemic crisis. Many people went into poverty due to this critical situation. Rural areas have comparatively less job opportunities, so this is also an issue to be dealt with.
The present scenario-
Around 70% of the total manpower reside in rural areas.
Job opportunities are more in urban localities as compared to that of the rurals. This is the reason behind the migration of workers from rural to the urban areas which is eventually resulting in the increasing population density in urban localities. This increased population density is the major causative for the high rents for the apartments.
The unemployment rate in India was 8.4% until March 2020 and has incremented to 27% due to the pandemic crisis,states some reports.
After the pandemic crisis,in the country’s economy only the agricultural sector is giving contribution while the other sectors are suffering rigorously.
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) is proving helpful for those working people who came back to their native rural places after getting fired from their jobs during the pandemic crisis.
Agricultural sector is contributing at a very good rate to the country’s economy. But still it requires much potential.
Agriculture sector can also provide several employment opportunities like improving post harvest stock, manufacturing units, in the transportation sector for selling and distribution,etc. If much more potential is indulged in the agricultural sector it will nourish us with increased employment opportunities and eventually will contribute in improving the nation’s economy.
Fishiaries, dairy farms, fodder can also make contributions at their respective levels to provide employment.
Work from home opportunities are gonna prove a good deal to the homemaker womens who are bound due to family pressure and burdens of responsibilities. By accepting the work from home offers they can start up their career too.
Giving the essential equipment and technologies to the MSMEs can contribute in incrementing the employment opportunities.
Awareness about entrepreneurship development in rural youth can build up into a factory of employers who will provide a no. of employment opportunities to other rural and urban people.
The new startups in rural areas like handicrafts, handlooms,etc can be appreciated by providing special incentives to them. These startups will also contribute to improving the country’s economy by providing employment opportunities.
Sustainable development can be achieved by setting up agro-based industries, Solar plants and other clean energy industries. These will provide a good no. of job opportunities.
Skill development programmes should be organized and people should be benefited by them.
Due to the pandemic crisis many people are struggling with poverty. For this compensation, increasing MGNREGA work days from 100 to 200 will definitely help, according to the suggestion of Azim Premji Foundation.
Advancement in healthcare facilities should be the achievement at any stake. Setting up healthcare institutions and hospitals will also provide many job opportunities.
All sorts of industries require transportation services. So the transportation sector is the core of all the sectors . This should be improved to enhance the employment opportunity.
Government’s concerns-
Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan launched in May 2020, by the government of India to overcome the loss of economy due to the pandemic and to provide employment opportunities. It is also mentioned to help improve the agricultural infrastructure and provide collateral-free loans to the MSME sector.
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ” (MGNREGA), is the scheme that provides 100 day employment to the people of rural areas. This scheme helped the people who returned back to their village as they got fired from their job during the pandemic crisis.
Skill Training of Rural Youth” (STRY) is a part of skill India that facilitates the rural youth to learn new skills eventually contributing in increasing employment opportunities.
So for those working people who came back to their native rural places after getting fired from their jobs during the pandemic crisis, it is high time to create more and more job opportunities in the rural areas. Increasing the employment opportunities in the rural areas will also help in being prepared for such future pandemic crisis.Rural areas if utilized properly can contribute a lot in increasing the employment opportunities and eventually into the economy of the nation.
